The Tangled Mind – Listening to the Little Voice (A Reflection)

— A piece I wrote in 8th grade, now revisited with clearer eyes but the same heart

I wrote this piece back in 8th grade—young, curious, and full of questions about the world and myself. Reading it now, years later, I realize how raw and honest those thoughts were. Some parts make me smile at how naïve I was, while others hit even harder today. So I’ve refined the language, but I’ve kept the heart of it intact. This is a reflection of a younger me—and a reminder to always listen to that little voice within.

Fair warning: I wrote this in 8th grade, so brace yourself for teenage wisdom, emotional overstatements, and a suspicious overuse of the word "curiosity." If you're allergic to youthful sincerity, go ahead and hit that back button—I won’t take it personally. Probably.

The Tangled Mind – The Little Voice

Personality is a blend of characteristics and traits that shape who we are. The more you think about it, the deeper you dive. Humans are strange creatures—each one with a unique mindset and way of doing things. Unlike any other species, our thoughts and perspectives vary wildly. Everyone is different. Our abilities, our ways of thinking, our preferences—they're all uniquely ours.

We have different hobbies, likes and dislikes. For instance, I love trance music, but to others, it might be unbearable. That’s okay. It's all about choice. Some of us are good at certain things, while others aren't. That, too, is part of what makes us who we are. Nobody is perfect.

No matter whether we’re thinking about the past, present, or future, there’s always one constant emotion: curiosity. Everything exists in our mind, and it's up to us how we interpret it.

What bothers me most today is how everyone—our parents, friends, partners, even strangers—tries to influence our thoughts. Yes, they have the right to advise us, but not to force their beliefs onto us. That little voice in our head—our conscience—is ours alone. It’s not something anyone else can or should try to change.

Friends try to persuade us, parents try to shape our mindset, teachers try to control our curiosity, and even the people who love us may unintentionally try to reshape our feelings. Somewhere along the way, that little voice gets drowned out. And that’s not right.

Our thoughts, our mentality, our feelings, our curiosity—they belong to us. No one else.

And even if, in the future, we face failure or feel lost, we must never lose hope. Trust yourself. Leave the rest to fate—or to God, if you believe. Keep working hard. Don’t live with regret, because something good is always waiting around the corner. All we need is a little patience and the courage to hold on.

The best is yet to come. One day, you’ll prove to the world that you were never a failure. That will be your moment.

And here’s the secret: you’ve always known it deep inside.

So if you're reading this, always follow your heart. Remember the little voice—it’s yours, and only yours. Trust it.

You’re going to be just fine, my friend.
